Located in Natchez, Mississippi, The Goat Castle is located at 551 John R. Junkin Drive. The tale that surrounds this home is the story of Jane Surget Merrill, better known as Jennie. In August, 1932, Jennie was murdered in her home, which was called "Glenburine." Her neighbors, Richard Dana and Octavia Dockery, were suspected right away after reports of the two not getting along with Jennie surfaced. The home the neighbors lived in went by the name "Glenwood."
Glenwood was a sight to see when the police arrived to question the two neighbors. The windows were shattered, ceiling was caving in, and the home was infested with cockroaches, mites, and fleas. There were even Geese, chickens, and goats living inside the home, earning it the "Goat Castle" title.
The two were eventually cleared for the murder of Jennie and they opened their home for tours. Richard and Octavia passed away and the stories of Goat Castle lived on. Witnesses say they have spotted Jennie's ghost darting from tree to tree, moaning. She has also been seen wandering the woods near the castle. Some reports say they've heard Richard's ghost playing the piano as well.
Reviews
My dad would always tell me stories about his dad's childhood, I never got to meet my grandfather, but he wrote a book about his childhood experiences. My dad would read me the different stories in this book so i could get to know my grandfather. One of those stories was his adventure exploring this castle, long after it was abandoned. I think it's kinda neat because it's something i can relate to.
